Description & Requirements
On behalf of Department of Business and Trade, we are looking for a Data Protection Officer (Inside IR35) for a 3 month hybrid contract based out of Nottingham, Belfast, Cardiff Darlington, Edinburgh or Salford.
SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.
As a Data Protection Officer, your main responsibilities will be:
- Lead SAR, FOI and complaints case management across the Fair Work Agency.
- Manage requests from receipt to resolution, meeting statutory deadlines.
- Coordinate information gathering across teams and stakeholders.
- Review, assess and redact information in line with UK GDPR and FOIA.
- Draft clear, accurate and compliant disclosure responses.
- Maintain robust audit trails and case records.
- Provide expert guidance on information rights and records management.
- Liaise with DBT and key stakeholders on complex cases.
- Identify compliance risks and drive process improvements.
- Support wider knowledge and information management activities.
Essential:
- Proven experience managing Subject Access Requests (SARs) from receipt to response.
- Strong knowledge of UK GDPR and information rights legislation.
- Sound understanding of the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA) and statutory compliance requirements.
- Experienced in applying exemptions, coordinating searches and drafting compliant responses.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, able to influence and collaborate across teams.
- Confident advising colleagues on data protection and information governance matters.
- Strong decision-making skills with the ability to handle sensitive information appropriately.
- Exceptional attention to detail, maintaining accurate records and audit trails.
- Self-motivated and able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Clear and confident communicator with strong written and verbal communication skills.
