On behalf of The Ministry of Justice we are looking for a Content Designer (Inside IR35) for a 6 month contract. Hybrid working with up to 2 days per week in any MOJ UK office. 

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) priorities include improving public safety and reducing reoffending by reforming prisons, probation and youth justice, and building a justice system which makes access to justice swifter and more certain for all citizens whatever their background. Project professionals in the MoJ help to improve the government’s ability to protect the public and reduce reoffending, and to provide a more effective, transparent and responsive criminal justice system for victims and the public.

The Content Designer will be joining the Justice Redact team – comprising Full-Stack Developer, DevOps Engineer, Data Scientists, a User Researcher, a Senior Interaction Designer, a Product Lead, a Delivery Manager and Subject Matter Experts – to support the team to ensure the AI-powered redaction tool is clear, useable and aligned with user needs

The project addresses a significant challenge within the Ministry of Justice: a rapidly increasing demand for data through Subject Access Requests (SARs), Freedom of Information (FOI) requests and other information-heavy use cases. Current workflows rely heavily on manual, fragmented processes, making it difficult to meet strict legal deadlines and driving up costs through external suppliers or additional staffing. The Content Designer will make the AI redaction system understandable, trustworthy, and useful - so users can confidently review, validate, and act on AI redaction suggestions in a high risk and complex environment.

As a Content Designer your main responsibilities will be to:

• Collaborate with the interaction designer to integrate content into UI flows.
• Partner with data scientists to understand the model.
• Design end-to-end content flows across the UI prototype.
• Help users understand what the AI is doing and what they need to do next.
• Reduce cognitive load in complex redaction workflows.
• Support users in reviewing and validating AI output.
• Test content in real scenarios.
• Ensure content reflects legal requirements, accessibility and service standards, and ethical considerations.
• Establish a shared language across the product.

Essential:

• Demonstratable Digital Content Design experience.
• Experienced in working with Agile methodologies, managing tasks and supporting the delivery of the core functionality of an MVP in fortnightly sprints to validate product concepts.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Previous experience of working in government is preferred.
