Description & Requirements

On behalf of Network Rail, we are looking for a Senior Commercial Manager (Inside IR35) for a 6 month contract on a hybrid basis (3 days in London or George Stephenson House)

The role:

We are seeking a Senior Commercial Manager to play a key role in linking tactical supplier management with the strategic partnerships of the ETCS supply chain. The successful candidate will work within a regulated environment, managing both standard procurement activities and externally funded delivery activities for third parties. This role supports the East Coast digital programme, promoting commercial management, business change contract arrangements, and franchise and stakeholder engagement.

 

As Senior Commercial Manager, your main responsibilities will be: 

  • Articulate and manage the importance of stakeholder engagement within a regulated environment. 
  • Distinguish between standard post-contract procurement activities and externally funded delivery activities. 
  • Support and evaluate procurements in a commercial environment. 
  • Manage cost, profiling, and reporting, including invoice activation and train operator accounts. 
  • Evaluate risks and provide mitigation strategies. 
  • Oversee programme and schedule management in a commercial context. 
  • Promote commercial management and business change within franchise and stakeholder frameworks. 
  • Provide insight into regulation, particularly relating to signalling and railway contracts. 

 

Essential:

  • Knowledge of railway and construction industry conditions of contract. 
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent, with a professional qualification. 
  • Experienced negotiator. 
  • Experience in resolution of construction contract disputes. 
  • Knowledge of railway commercial contract management, stakeholder engagement, and communication. 
  • Strong understanding of contracts and railway industry practices. 

 

Desirable:

  • Experience managing and developing a team of staff. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  • Experience handling contractors’ accounts. 
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Oracle. 
  • Railway and regulatory experience; airline experience is a plus.
