Description & Requirements

On behalf of DWP, we are looking for a Technical Agile Delivery Manager for a 12 Month (Inside IR35) hybrid contract based up to 3 days per week in Birmingham, Leeds or Newcastle.


Core Purpose

The Senior Agile Delivery Manager is a technical delivery leader responsible for planning, coordinating and driving strategic engineering initiatives across multiple feature and platform teams. They will shape and deliver shared capabilities, technical enablers and services that support engineering teams across DWP Digital.

The role requires strong leadership of agile ceremonies, active dependency and risk management, and clear, concise delivery reporting. Operating within modern software engineering environments, the ADM works closely with Product, DevOps, Architects and other Delivery Managers. Recent, hands-on experience leading software development teams at SFIA level 6 is essential.


Experience with platform engineering or data engineering teams would be beneficial.


Key Responsibilities

Agile Delivery & Leadership

  • Lead an agile software delivery team, driving sprint planning, execution and continuous improvement.
  • Manage risks, issues and cross team dependencies proactively.
  • Build strong relationships with engineering, product and delivery partners.


Technical & Platform Competence

  • Confident operating in environments using Azure, AWS, Terraform, Git, CI/CD pipelines and modern engineering practices.
  • Strong Jira skills at team and programme level for planning, tracking and reporting.
  • Comfortable working with testing, data flows and technical roadmaps.


Planning, Coordination & Execution

  • Maintain prioritised backlogs with Product Managers.
  • Develop delivery plans, track progress, and provide clear reporting to stakeholders.
  • Complete follow up admin tasks including change requests via ServiceNow.


Problem Framing & Continuous Improvement

  • Undertake discovery and quickly understand business outcomes and technical context.
  • Use an agile mindset to remove blockers and innovate around constraints.


Collaboration & Community Leadership

  • Work closely with Product, Architecture, Engineering and delivery peers across Health and DWP.
  • Contribute to community best practice and knowledge sharing across teams.


Essential Skills & Experience (Core Technical Requirements)

  • Recent, applied agile delivery management experience in a software engineering environment.
  • Experienced Scrum Master able to run agile ceremonies effectively.
  • Strong facilitation, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Excellent risk, issue and dependency management capability.
  • Skilled in Jira; competent with tools such as Miro/Lucid, Confluence, Slack and ServiceNow.
  • Ability to understand and support technical roadmaps, OKRs and multi team delivery.


Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience with ServiceNow for change management.
  • Previous experience working with DWP processes and practices.
  • Experience working with platform engineering or data engineering teams.
