Description & Requirements

On behalf of The Home Office, we are looking for X3 Researchers (Inside IR35) for a 26 day contract based remotely.

The Home Office covers three systems Homeland Security, Public Safety and Borders, and Immigration and Citizenship. These systems work collaboratively to deliver our cross-cutting priorities, whilst providing increasingly efficient and secure services for the public. These are difficult areas that can rapidly change in the global environment we work in – this makes us one of the most exciting and stimulating government departments in which to work.


Job Purpose:


The purpose of this project is to undertake a short research activity to develop an accurate view of the relative priority of the UK’s international partners based on Critical Information Infrastructure (CII) dependencies. This work will help inform future international cyber security risk mitigation activities.


The CII researchers will work to the senior cyber specialist and be responsible for key research activities and product deliveries including: CNI dependency research, the implementation of a data evaluation methodology and utilising a CII prioritisation approach based on dependency risk analysis.


DV Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be eligible and willing to undergo these checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance. 


As a Researcher, your main responsibilities will be:


  • To work collaboratively to meet the outcomes of the project.
  • Facilitation of stakeholder workshops/interviews including presenting and gathering feedback information.
  • Contact and engage directly with key stakeholders in the public and private sector including academia where appropriate.


Essential:


  • Have experience in the field of CNI protection from cyber threats, ideally covering a wide range of sectors including Chemicals, Civil Nuclear, Energy, Finance, Food, Space or Water.
  • Have experience of structured research and data gathering exercises.
  • Have experience and a broad understanding of how modern Information Systems are architected and operated in the globally distributed service marketplace.
  • Understands business and business needs, having worked in various business positions, ideally in both the public and private sector.
  • Ability to work at the strategic (system of systems) level and see the global systems picture.
  • Ability to develop new hypotheses and analyse relevant data to inform quantitative assessments of levels of risk based in impact and probability.
  • Competent independent use modern IT suites (eg Office365, Messaging apps, etc), as well as advanced skills in Microsoft Excel or other analytic tools.
  • Data analytics certification.


Desirable:


  • Critical Information Infrastructure Protection course (desirable) CCIPS Certified Critical Infrastructure Protection Specialist
