On behalf of the MOD, we are looking for an Assistant Management Accountant (Inside IR35) for a 6 months contract based in Whittington, Andover or Wyton 1-2 days per week in the office.

The Assistant Management Accountant plays a key role in supporting the delivery of accurate, timely, and compliant financial management information within a UK Government environment. Working as part of a wider finance team, the post holder will support robust financial control, budget management, forecasting, and reporting activity, ensuring that financial records are maintained to a high standard and remain audit ready at all times.
The role requires strong technical management accounting skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively under pressure while engaging constructively with a wide range of stakeholders.
As an Assistant Management Accountant, your main responsibilities will be:
- Support the production of management accounts, forecasts, and financial reports, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance with governance requirements.
- Maintain high quality, audit ready financial records in line with MOD/DIO policies, procedures, and audit standards.
- Analyse financial data to identify trends, risks, and discrepancies, providing clear explanations and recommendations to support decision making.
- Assist with budget monitoring and forecasting, highlighting variances and supporting corrective actions where required.
- Contribute to month end and year end processes, ensuring deadlines are met and outputs are of a high standard.
- Work effectively with stakeholders across the business, providing financial advice, guidance, and support to enable effective business change.
- Support continuous improvement of finance processes, controls, and reporting arrangements.
Essential:
- Active Sc Clearance
- Demonstrable experience in management accounting within a UK Government or similarly regulated public sector environment.
- Strong management accounting skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial information and resolve discrepancies confidently.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail, with a proven track record of maintaining audit‑ready financial records.
- Ability to manage a high workload, prioritise competing demands, and consistently meet tight deadlines.
- Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence, explain financial information clearly, and support business change.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of MOD/DIO financial systems, governance frameworks, policy requirements, and audit processes, or the ability to develop this quickly.
