About the Electoral Commission

The Electoral Commission is the UK’s independent body overseeing elections and regulating political finance. Everything we do is about ensuring trust, participation, and integrity in the democratic process.

As we enter a bold new chapter under our five-year corporate plan, we are increasing our workforce and transforming how we plan and deliver core services. You will play a central role in that journey.

About the role

As a Communications Manager (Internal and Corporate Communications) you will manage the delivery of the Commission’s internal and corporate communications function, providing colleagues and stakeholders with timely, accurate, engaging and well-presented corporate information. You will be responsible for ensuring the Commission’s internal and corporate communications output aligns with the organisation’s strategic objectives, our mission, vision and values.

You will line manage two senior officers and one officer.  They will be expected to advise senior colleagues on best practise internal communications and to evaluate the effectiveness of communications on an ongoing basis, adapting approaches as required.

On a day-to-day basis, you will be:

  • Lead and deliver the Commission’s internal communications activity across a number of key channels. Ensure major internal projects are well communicated and colleagues across the organisation receive the news and information they need in a timely and engaging manner. Manage and maintain a range of internal communications channels, include the intranet, weekly e-newsletter, regular all-staff meetings and an annual all-staff event.
  • Deliver key corporate publications, including the Commission’s annual report and strategic plans. Use these publications to demonstrate the Commission’s impact and accountability to the public and the UK’s parliaments, and to communicate the Commission’s priorities, long-term vision and achievements.
  • Lead, motivate and develop a team of three internal and corporate communications professionals to achieve objectives, foster learning, and maintain high standards of professionalism and responsiveness.
  • Build strong internal networks across the organisation so that any emerging issues are identified early and staff feel they understand the importance of internal communications when embarking on a new project, or updating an existing one.
  • Provide communications advice to Executive Team and members of the Senior Leadership Group on engagement, messaging, timing and evaluation
  • Help shape and maintain the Commission’s culture by reflecting the organisation’s values, mission, goals, and long-term strategic direction in the tone and content of communications activity. Use internal communications to connect colleagues to the Commission’s purpose.

About the team

You will be supported in the role by the Head of the team, and the wider internal and corporate communications team.

The role involves working closely with colleagues across the organisation, supporting teams and colleagues to communicate news and information about their work. You will advise and engage regularly with the Chief Executive and Executive Team, other senior staff, and other managers.
