Description & Requirements


On behalf of Department of Business & Trade, we are looking for a Python Frond End Developer(Inside IR35) for a 9 months contract based Hybrid / in UK wide.


SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance. 


The Employee Experience (EX) portfolio sits within the Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) directorate at the Department for Business and Trade (DBT). Although EX is one of the smaller portfolios in DDaT, its impact is significant. The team is responsible for a number of high-profile internal services used across the department, including the Intranet, People Finder, Financial Forecasting Tool, Hybrid Working Reporting Tool, Identity service and Leaver’s service.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Developer to join the EX-portfolio and make an immediate contribution. This is an opportunity to work as part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team, delivering services in an Agile environment that directly support colleagues across DBT.


As a Python Frond End Developer, your main responsibilities will be:

  • Deliver high-quality user-centred features and services within an agile environment.
  • Support the software development community promoting modern standards and code quality.
  • Review complex pull requests and pair programme
  • Address technical debt across the portfolio
  • Prototype potential solutions and unblock technical challenges
  • Coach and mentor junior peers
  • Work closely with other professions, including user researchers, content designers and interaction designers, to shape practical implementation approaches.


Essential:

  • Successful candidate will be highly proficient in Django web framework
  • Have Python as their primary programming language
  • Can diagnose database-related issues in PostgreSQL, MySQL or similar
  • Experienced using monitoring and alerting tools, such as Datadog, AWS CloudWatch
  • Ensure portfolio documentation and runbooks are up to date
  • Knowledge in Wagtail.


Please be aware that this role can only be worked within the UK and not Overseas.
