Description & Requirements

On behalf of Homes England, we are looking for a Data Engineer (Inside IR35) for a 6 month contract based hybrid in Birmingham or Liverpool offices as and when required.

Following the publication of the government’s Levelling Up White Paper, Homes England has also been tasked with a core role in spearheading regeneration, partnering with places to reduce economic disparity, empower local leaders and create equal opportunities across the country to ensure communities reach their full potential.


As a Data Engineer, your main responsibilities will be:

  • Function as a Data Engineering Subject Matter Expert individual contributor, provide technical leadership and guidance in the development and implementation of analytics solutions for the organisation. Support the Head of Engineering & Platform and Lead Data Engineer to ensure that the team's work is aligned with the agency's strategic objectives and business needs, and that it follows the agency's data standards and practices.
  • Design and implement automated solutions for data collection, management, cleaning, and organisation. Develop and maintain data pipelines that automate the processing of data and ensure the delivery of high-quality data to end-users. Monitor and optimize data automation processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Lead the development and implementation of data models, structures, and standards to support business needs. Collaborate closely with stakeholders, including digital colleagues, to ensure that data structures and models are fit for purpose and follow the agency's data standards.
  • Support the development and implementation of governance and standards (e.g. information security, data quality) to ensure developed intelligence and data can be easily accessed and interpreted by others and adopt appropriate change management processes for data and systems changes and manage associated risk.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of a range of core data services, automating data pipelines and ensuring that key data is consistent and accurate across the whole data ecosystem.


Essential:

  • Demonstrable experience of delivering data solutions using cloud data technologies (preferably Azure and Databricks).
  • Demonstrable experience of coding and automating data pipelines using languages such as PySpark & SQL.
  • Experience of working with large and complex data environments.
  • Experience of working with structured, unstructured data (spatial and non-spatial).
  • Evidence of adaptability with the ability to learn new technologies and methodologies.
  • Experience developing and maintaining effective working relationships with technical and non-specialist colleagues.
  • Experience of translating business problems into technical solutions.
  • Demonstrable experience in a role that includes problem solving, analytical and logical skills.
