The Government Property Agency is an Executive Agency of the cabinet office. It is changing the way the Civil Service works and is at the forefront of Government's transformation agenda; reshaping the relationship civil servants have with their place of work. The Agency is central to the delivery of key Government policies including moving 22,000 Civil Service roles out of London by 2030 and tackling climate change by contributing to the Net Zero agenda. To do this we are delivering a major change programme across the UK and consolidating our portfolio in order to save £1.4 Bn over 10 years.

On behalf of The Government Property Agency, we are looking for a Business Manager (Inside IR35) for a 6-month contract. This is a hybrid working role (one day per week office based - various locations available UK Wide).
Job Purpose:
The Chief Operating Office (COO) Corporate Performance team sits at the heart of the GPA, working across the entire organisation (and with key external stakeholders) to help ensure that it is best delivering against short and long term objectives, vision and strategy and as such, is delivering the best possible service to our Clients and Customers.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Corporate Performance Team to act as both the Business Manager to the Deputy Director Corporate Performance and to provide support across the team, in particular to the GPA Continuous Improvement Programme Team and Business Planning and Performance Team.
This role requires someone with a collaborative, constructive and positive attitude who will be able to work effectively with colleagues in COO and across the wider organisation. This is a varied role in a fast-paced environment and will require someone who is flexible, organised and motivated.
The role involves managing competing priorities, processing information quickly from emails and liaising effectively with a range of GPA’s stakeholders. The role also provides the opportunity to develop and be involved in key projects and change initiatives across both the COO Directorate and wider GPA.
As a Business Manager, your main responsibilities will be:
- Providing professional, timely and effective day to day management of the DD’s diary; ensuring that it meets the required standard; identifying issues as they arise and ensuring they are efficiently dealt with; making sure that the DD is appropriately briefed and prepared for meetings/events in advance.
- Developing and overseeing meetings, organising logistics and ensuring materials are commissioned, produced and provided to support meetings/events, that accurate notes are kept and actions are tracked.
- Provide support to the Continuous Improvement programme team and Business Planning and Performance teams, including (but not limited to) events/meeting co-ordination, note taking, support on communications to the organisation, development of briefing packs, supporting the capturing and reporting progress updates against targets and performance metrics.
- Co-ordinating team-wide responses to feed into larger corporate returns and processes, ensuring commissioned material is received on time and is of acceptable quality. Identifying data requirements, sources and gaps, minimising the direct impact on teams.
- Building and maintaining effective working relationships across the GPA Directorates, wider Civil Service and senior stakeholders. Dealing with staff at all levels will require excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to react quickly to a changing environment, often thinking on your feet.
- Support the Corporate Performance Senior Management Team to drive a culture of high performance across the team, supporting co-ordination of team meetings, events and learning opportunities
- Anticipating future business needs to enable the DD and wider team to operate effectively and efficiently, analysing business issues/problems and either implementing or recommending solutions.
- Work with other business managers across the organisation, providing support to one another when required
Essential:
- Good business management experience including the ability to lead on support for meetings, directorate planning and team organisation
- Ability to quickly develop a sound knowledge and understanding of business priorities, ways of working and information management
- Ability to work independently, quickly and efficiently in a fast paced environment, often to tight deadlines
- Good communication and engagement skills both orally and in writing
- Ability to work confidently and effectively with staff at all levels, including senior leadership
- Experience of influencing others
- Ability to embrace change and be receptive to fresh ideas, taking a proactive approach to improvement
- Change programme support experience desirable, but not essential
