Description & Requirements



On behalf of The Ministry of Justice, we are looking for a Building Services Engineer - Mechanical (Inside IR35) for a 6 Month hybrid contract based in London or alternatively another MOJ hub.


The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) priorities include improving public safety and reducing reoffending by reforming prisons, probation and youth justice, and building a justice system which makes access to justice swifter and more certain for all citizens whatever their background. Project professionals in the MoJ help to improve the government’s ability to protect the public and reduce reoffending, and to provide a more effective, transparent and responsive criminal justice system for victims and the public.


As a Building Services Engineer - Mechanical, your main responsibilities will be:


  • Represent Property Directorate interests and support other Government departments on cross-Government working groups
  • Draft reports and papers on MEP issues.
  • Deal with queries on Mechanical Technical Specifications and Design Guidance from any source, including supply chain, manufacturers, members of the public, lawyers, etc.
  • Lead on the production and updating of Mechanical Technical Specifications - and provide support to the M&E aspects of Design Guidance, Technical Specifications and drawings, pulling-in other Team members to contribute their expertise as necessary.
  • Draft Estates Technical Notices as directed by the Senior Standards & Assurance Manager
  • Manage technical enquiries put to the Technical Standards Team


Essential:


  • An HNC or higher qualification in Mechanical Engineering, with a solid foundation in building services and infrastructure.
  • Site experience in the delivery and coordination of building services installations.
  • Knowledge of sustainability standards, including practical application of BREEAM principles in design and construction.
  • Proven experience consulting on building services, contributing to design development and technical compliance.
  • Understanding of Net Zero principles, with the ability to integrate low-carbon solutions into engineering projects.
  • Ideally, be experienced in below-ground infrastructure, including drainage, pipework, and utility coordination.
