Description & Requirements
On behalf of DWP, we are looking for a Senior Test Engineer for a 6 Month contract (Inside IR35) based Hybrid in Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle or Sheffield.
As a Senior Test Engineer, you will work within the Digital Modernisation & Efficiency (DME) team to support the delivery of accessible user centred designed services to both citizen and DWP colleagues.
This role requires excellent attention to detail, a commitment to quality, a belief in the benefits of faster feedback and the ability to make decisions to manage well assured services. Performing both manual and automated testing to ensure the highest level of quality possible.
As a Senior Test Engineer your main responsibilities will be:
- Design and implement end-to-end test strategies for legacy-to-cloud service migration.
- Lead automated testing efforts using Selenium, Cucumber, and related tools.
- Collaborate within multidisciplinary Scrum teams (Test, Software, DevOps Engineers)
- Execute black-box and functional tests against both UIs and APIs.
- Conduct non-functional testing: performance, accessibility, and security.
- Provide test execution, reporting, and defect triage support throughout the development lifecycle.
- Drive improvements to test automation frameworks and testing best practices.
Essential:
- Proven experience designing and executing test strategies for complex, large-scale systems (especially legacy-to-cloud migrations).
- Extensive hands on experience with automation frameworks and tools (e.g. Selenium, Cucumber). Ability to improve test coverage and maintain robust automated test suites.
- Automated Functional Testing: Experience building and maintaining comprehensive, robust, and reliable automated functional tests against UIs and APIs, including contributing to improvements in testing frameworks.
- Black Box Testing: Skilled in designing and executing black-box test scenarios.
- Programming for Automation: Demonstrable skills in a modern programming language (e.g. Java, Python, or JavaScript), with strong knowledge of software testing practices.
- Non Functional Testing: Experience in conducting performance, security, and accessibility testing, with knowledge of relevant tools and standards.
- Experience leading testing across multiple teams and collaborating across the full software lifecycle.
