Description & Requirements

On behalf of Department for Education (DfE), we are looking for a Lease Accountant (Inside IR35) for a 6 month contract based  in Manchester London, Coventry, Sheffield or Darlington.


A Lease Accountant is required to undertake some short term activities, in support of our Finance teams. They will be required to gather a full understanding of our lease position, plan for future modifications, and reconcile associated accounts


As a Lease Accountant, your main responsibilities will be:


  • Maintain and develop a lease database, ensuring all lease agreements are accurately recorded, updated, and compliant with relevant accounting standards (IFRS 16).
  • Track lease modifications, including renewals, terminations, and amendments, and assess their accounting impact. Assist with scenario planning for potential lease modifications, to support management decision making
  • Reconcile lease-related accounts, including right-of-use assets and lease liabilities, on a monthly and quarterly basis
  • Prepare journal entries for lease payments, interest expense, depreciation, and remeasurements.
  • Support audits by providing lease documentation, schedules, and reconciliations



Essential:


  • Qualified Accountant
  • Lease accounting experience .
  • Strong understanding of IFRS 16, .
  • Proficiency in accounting software and lease management systems
  • Management and Financial Accounts



Desirable:


  • Public sector experience
