On behalf of The Department for Transport, we are looking for a Commercial Assurance Lead (Inside IR35) for a contract until May 2026 based 3 days a week in London, Birmingham, Leeds ,Swansea or Hastings.

As a Commercial Assurance Lead, your main responsibilities will be:
- Lead and support commercial assurance across a diverse portfolio of projects within the DfT Group, including Arm’s Length Bodies and Agencies, ensuring alignment with departmental objectives.
- Identify and mitigate commercial risks, presenting actionable solutions to senior stakeholders to support informed decision-making.
- Influence senior commercial leaders on the development and management of complex commercial strategies and risk frameworks across the Department and wider Government.
- Manage the interface with the Commercial Assurance Board, including preparing assurance briefings, coordinating reviews, and tracking outcomes of Board decisions.
- Review and challenge high-value business cases as part of the Commercial Centre of Excellence, providing strategic briefings to the Commercial Director and Investment Committees.
- Maintain oversight of assurance activities, including tracking project pipelines, aligning progressive assurance with CAB reviews, and capturing lessons learned to enhance commercial capability.
Essential:
- Demonstrated leadership in complex commercial activities, with end-to-end experience across the commercial lifecycle, including strategy development and delivery of high-value, high-risk procurements.
- Strong analytical capability to assess commercial risks, understand margins of error, and develop well-informed recommendations for customers and senior stakeholders.
- Proven ability to influence and challenge senior stakeholders, manage multiple priorities under pressure, and apply deep commercial insight to shape and manage complex commercial arrangements
Desirable:
- CIPS
- Public sector experience
- 5 case model/Green Book
