Description & Requirements

On behalf of Department For Business and Trade (DBT), we are looking for a Systems Financial Accountant (Inside IR35) for a 12 months contract based Hybrid 10% office attendance or as need for Business requirements.


We are seeking an experienced Systems Financial Accountant to play a critical role within the Matrix Programme (NEO). This individual will work closely with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), functional teams, and ERP consultants to shape and deliver finance transformation initiatives, ensuring robust design, strong governance, and successful adoption across the organisation.


As a Systems Financial Accountant, your main responsibilities will be:


  • Partner with SMEs and functional teams to identify gaps in functional design, helping to define and implement effective solutions.
  • Review proposed solutions to ensure they are optimal and fit for purpose, recommending workarounds or escalating where formal change requests are required.
  • Lead detailed design activities for department-specific areas, including loans and consolidation.
  • Collaborate with ERP consultants and the wider functional design team to embed new processes and enhance reporting capabilities.
  • Develop clear and actionable transformation roadmaps, supporting the finance community in preparation for go-live.
  • Provide leadership on artefact development, ensuring clarity on required outputs, ownership, and quality standards.
  • Work with SMEs and benefits teams to identify, track, and assess benefits and disbenefits arising from design decisions.
  • Support the finance function by sharing process knowledge and technical best practice, driving team capability and confidence.
  • Drive improvements in data integrity, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency within finance systems.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging innovation and process optimisation.
  • Ensure robust financial control and compliance is maintained throughout the transformation lifecycle.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement and change adoption, ensuring alignment, clear communication, and successful implementation.


Essential:


  • SC Clearance
  • Strong financial accounting skills with a breadth of ex[erince
  • Strong experience in finance transformation programmes, ideally within complex or large-scale environments.
  • Demonstrated expertise in functional design, process improvement, and ERP implementations.
  • Proven ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders across finance and wider business functions.
  • Experience in leading design workshops and managing SME engagement.
  • Strong understanding of financial controls, reporting, and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to challenge and improve existing solutions.
  • Track record of delivering change adoption and capability uplift within finance teams.
