The Insolvency Service is partway through a programme of technology transformation, which includes moving away from legacy administrative systems and modernising our reporting and data platforms. As part of this programme, we are in the process of migrating our SAP Business Objects 4.3 content from its legacy environment and redeveloping these reports using Power BI.
Requirement
The Insolvency Service has a requirement for a Data Analyst to replicate a suite of existing reports and dashboards that are currently produced using a data warehouse, SAP Business Objects and related applications. The successful outcome of this work will enable the Insolvency Service to decommission its SAP applications.
As a Data Analyst (Power BI & SQL) your main responsibilities will be to:
- Connect Power BI directly to a range of source SQL databases currently used by SAP Business Objects.
- Build data models to replicate and improve existing report logic used in existing BO/WebLogic reports.
- Where required, confirm specific reporting requirements where there is an opportunity to replicate or replace reporting output with a simpler solution.
- Carry out required data cleaning, transformation and calculation logic using Microsoft Power Query, SQL and Power BI DAX
- Rebuild and improve the existing reporting estate by creating Power BI:
- Case level operational reports (tabular/detailed outputs used daily by operational teams)
- Aggregated and management level reports with effective visualisations, filters, slicers, drill through and other interactive capabilities
Essential:
- Advanced hands on experience with Power BI, including data modelling, DAX, visualisation best practices and building reusable semantic models
- Strong working knowledge of SQL, including querying relational databases and understanding data structures
- Ability to interpret and translate existing SAP Business Objects / Weblogic (e.g., queries, joins, calculation contexts) into equivalent Power BI/DAX patterns
- Proven experience working with complex datasets and replicating or modernising existing reporting solutions
