On behalf of the MOD we are looking for a Lead Solution Architect (Inside IR35) for a 5 month contract. Hybrid working with 3 days per week in Swindon.

Working to Defence Architectural standards, policy and toolsets, the Lead Solution Architect will have the responsibility, under the stewardship of DefAC, to work closely with the Digital and Data Defence Function to establish the As-Is digital architectural picture of the existing DefAC ICT, establish technical requirements, current and future over a 5-10 year period, which will support new contractual processes and assess these to establish the possible To-Be solutions.
This will require you to create and maintain the relevant architectural materials to support your submissions and presentations to the Digital Backbone Design Authority, Cyber Risk Board and support security architecture through Secure by Design.
As a Lead Solution Architect your main responsibilities will be to:
- Work closely with internal and external SME’s (predominantly the Digital and Data function in Defence) to document the As-Is and present a To-Be architectural picture and develop technical requirements for future contract delivery and presentation to relevant boards.
- Build relationships with senior stakeholders across multiple business or technical areas in the organisation.
- Be proactive in identifying opportunities to improve the organisation.
- Support multiple architecture projects or programmes.
- Find and use emerging technologies and approaches.
- Develop best practice for solution architecture.
Essential:
- An active SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. (Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.)
- Ability to make and guide architectural design decisions characterised by medium risk and complexity.
- Ability to use architectural governance and assurance to make design decisions and manage technical risks at the appropriate level.
- Can define strategies or visions across teams that align with organisational objectives.
- Can create technical designs characterised by high risk, impact, and complexity.
- Can communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels, and across organisations, using architecture communication techniques.
Desirable:
- Defence / Public Sector experience.
