Description & Requirements

On behalf of the Met Office we are looking for an Infrastructure Engineer (Inside IR35) for a 6 month contract. Hybrid working with travel to Exeter as and when required. 


We are looking for an experienced and proactive Infrastructure Engineer to join the Digital Workplace team. In this position, you will help define and deliver the technical direction of our digital infrastructure, with a particular focus on harnessing Microsoft technologies. You will be expected to be a self stater able to work independently and take own initiative.


Your responsibilities will centre on designing, implementing, and maintaining robust, scalable, and secure infrastructure solutions. Leveraging services such as Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, and associated cloud offerings, you will enable the seamless adoption and optimisation of tools to support the delivery of world-class meteorological services, ensuring the Met Office remains at the cutting edge of digital innovation.


Essential:


  • An active SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. (Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.) 
  • Proven expertise with Microsoft 365 services, including Entra ID (Azure AD), Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, and Intune.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, including virtual machines, networking, storage, identity, and security services.
  • Strong knowledge of infrastructure security, patching, vulnerability management, and compliance within a regulated environment.
  • Ability to translate business and user requirements into practical, secure technical solutions.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across Windows, cloud, and networked services.
  • Comfortable documenting designs, standards, and operational procedures to support audit and knowledge sharing.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across Digital Workplace, security, and wider technology teams.
