Description & Requirements
On behalf of the Met Office we are looking for a Software Developer (Inside IR35) for a 6 month contract. Hybrid working with occasional travel to Exeter.
This role is within the Transport Tribe who are responsible for building, maintaining and supporting systems that provide weather data services for the transport industry including Aviation, Rail and Marine.
As a Software Developer your main responsibilities will be to:
- Design, develop, test and document robust, maintainable & secure code using industry standard patterns as per features described on the backlog.
- Mentor junior software developers within the tribe providing guidance through code reviews and pair programming.
- Develop systems characterised by moderate levels of risk, impact, and both business and technical complexity.
- Choose suitable design standards, methodologies, and tools, ensuring their effective application. Evaluate the designs created by others to confirm the appropriate selection of technologies, efficient resource utilisation, and seamless integration of various systems and technologies.
- Apply a Modern standards approach in the tribe.
- Write, maintain and improve automation pipelines for managing CI/CD working environments.
- Identify, locate and fix faults within highly available critical operational services. Take an active role in supporting the tribe’s technical estate during working hours.
Essential:
- An active SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. (Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.)
- Demonstrable experience of developing and testing software using Python with industry standard patterns.
- Good knowledge and experience of using AWS serverless technologies (Lambda, StepFunctions, DynamoDB, S3, SNS, SQS, CloudWatch, APIGateway, RDS, CloudWatch) within production level IT Systems.
- Proven knowledge and experience of building and deploying software into an AWS environment using CDK, codeBuild, codePipeline, Terraform.
- Experience of using GitHub workflows.
- Experience of working in an Agile, cross functional customer-centric working environment.
