On behalf of The Insolvency Service we are looking for a Senior User Researcher (Inside IR35) for a 3 month contract (until 31/03/26) contract. Hybrid working with 2 days per week required in London or Birmingham.
We are looking for an experienced User Researcher to join our multidisciplinary digital delivery team. You’ll play a key role in our re-platforming programme, ensuring our public-facing digital services are designed around genuine user needs. You’ll plan and carry out high-quality user research to generate actionable insights that shape both the front-end experience and back-end design.
As a Senior User Researcher your main responsibilities will be to:
- Plan, design, and conduct user research using a range of qualitative and quantitative methods in line with GDS standards.
- Communicate user insights effectively to designers, developers, product and policy colleagues to inform decision-making.
- Contribute to and support usability testing, prototyping, and iterative design.
- Work closely with interaction designers, content designers, product managers, and developers in agile, cross-functional teams.
- Present research findings clearly and persuasively to senior stakeholders, including through visuals, playback sessions, and written reports.
- Ensure research is ethical, inclusive, and representative of diverse user groups.
Essential:
- Experienced leading research across multiple teams and ensuring insights drive design and product decisions.
- Strong understanding of GDS research standards, ethics, and accessibility expectations.
- Proven experience in working with iteration designers, to take UR requirements that feed into a design
- Proven ability to scope, plan, deliver, and synthesise research at pace across several workstreams.
- Comfortable using Jira to track research tasks, manage evidence, and work seamlessly with delivery teams.
- Self-starter who can rapidly pick up context and set up a research rhythm that supports multi-team delivery.
