On behalf of DWP we are looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer for a 12 month (Inside IR35) contract. Hybrid working with 3 days per week required in either Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, Newcastle or Blackpool.
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is responsible for welfare, pensions, and child maintenance policy. As the UK’s biggest public service department, it administers the State Pension and a range of working age, disability and ill health benefits to around 20 million claimants and customers. Working with DWP, you will be helping us to drive our priorities to:
- Help people to move into work and support those already in work to progress, with the aim of increasing overall workforce participation
- Help people to plan and save for later life, while providing a safety net for those who need it now
- Provide effective, efficient, and innovative services to the millions of claimants who rely on us every day, including the most vulnerable in society
- Improve experience of our services while maximising value for money for the taxpayer.
As a Senior DevOps Engineer your main responsibilities will be:
- You will be part of a shared capability team building, maintaining, and migrating an infrastructure or platform as a service which hosts critical application providing service to citizens.
- You will be rotated across strategic and support teams . Strategic teams will be building solutions for the future and support teams will be changing the existing to move towards strategic solutions.
- Working in Agile methodology.
- You will have the challenge of consolidating various solutions into a strategic solution.
- Maintaining good code , documentation.
- Leading, co-ordinating , owning a specific service.
- Mentoring junior members of the team.
Essential:
- Extensive and demonstrable experience in designing, building, maintaining Linux workloads running across multiple environments on a cloud platform such as AWS.
- Extensive experience in designing and implementing best practices using IaC tools such as Terraform and automating legacy applications with scripting languages such as shell scripts, python.
- Extensive experience in designing and implementing best practices using CaC tools such as Ansible.
- Extensive experience in designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Gitlab, Github, Jenkins.
- Extensive experience in building, deploying and securing containers using various strategies across multiple environments
- Extensive experience in designing, implementing, testing with databases such as Mongo Atlas
- Extensive experience in problem solving and troubleshooting technical issues.
- Experience in using log management and aggregation tools such as Splunk.
- Experience in handling severity incidents.
