Description & Requirements

On behalf of DESNZ we are looking for a Data Analyst for a 3 month (Inside IR35) contract, working remotely. 


The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) is focused on the energy portfolio from the former Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).

This is an exciting opportunity to work on one of the Government priority areas at the heart of The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.


As part of the Permanent Secretary’s commission to improve departmental reporting, the goal of this project is to build a bespoke dashboard that will function as the user interface of a single repository of outcome metrics, used in various departmental boards and reports, including Strategy Outcomes Reports. The dashboard would function as the Outcome Boards’ visual interface, of a single universal repository of key outcome metrics that is robust and reusable across the department.



As a Data Analyst your main responsibilities will be to:


  • Work with data engineers to ingest relevant data in automated, reproducible pipelines.
  • Write scripts for cleaning, processing and transforming data as needed.
  • Design, develop and deploy visualisations, infographics and interactive interfaces to expand the Dashboards’ functionality.
  • Iterate designs based on user feedback and requirements.
  • Troubleshooting and problem resolution bugs and other issues to ensure continuity of service.
  • Support with quality assurance, code review and test development for the products.



Essential:


  • Strong skills in Python, including key data analysis & visualisation packages like Pandas and Dash.
  • Experience writing high quality Python with best practice coding principles.
  • Experience developing visualisation dashboards.
  • Fluency with Git and normal usage practices around branching, merging and dev/text/production versions.
  • Comfortable & experienced working in an Agile sprint-based system, organised through Gitlab (or similar software).
  • Experience in designing, building and maintaining scalable and robust data pipelines.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, management and communication skills.



Desirable:


  • Front end web development experience. Familiarity with CSS, HTML, JS.
  • Familiarity with data engineering principles and skills i.e. Databricks, SQL
  • Public Sector experience.
