Engineering Services Manager

Swindon Hybrid working,

Band F – £53,151 - £66,617

We are a friendly team of IT specialists in engineering, spanning different age groups and backgrounds. We are passionate about delivering the best service we possibly can and ensuring that the UKSBS achieves its mission and vision. Our working environment is inclusive and supportive, and we are always available if someone needs help. The approach to leadership in our team is consultative; you won’t be micromanaged here, but you will be supported and enabled to take responsibility for delivery and achieving results in your area.

We are always looking for ways to improve, whether that be with the assistance of technology products, ways of working, or continuous improvement. We strive to be the best we can be in all areas of our work.

We offer a flexible 37-hour work week with a mix of full and part-time hours, starting as early as 7:00 AM if you wish. Our hybrid working model gives you the freedom to choose what works best for you, whether that’s working from home and coming into our Swindon office just once a week or being in the office more regularly. We believe in giving you the autonomy to shape your schedule and work environment to suit your lifestyle

This role is to take on day-to-day oversight of the Engineering service, covering areas such as End User Devices (EUD), Networks and Infrastructure. It’s aimed at strengthening how we deliver services, support the teams, and keep things moving in the right direction, especially around service performance, risk, and continuous improvement

Duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Oversee services, ensuring high performance across ITSM processes including Incident, Request, and Problem Management. Ensure all services are aligned with agreed SLAs and KPIs.
  • Own and manage risks with the support of the team and Head of Engineering, including maintaining and updating the Risk and Control Matrix (RACM). Ensure compliance with internal controls and external standards.
  • Identify and implement improvements in service delivery, team collaboration, and tooling.
  • Develop and maintain training plans for the team. Support personal development and career progression, ensuring alignment with team goals and service needs.
  • Support and coordinate PI planning activities across Engineering. Ensure bottom-up priorities are clearly articulated and understood. Embed SAFe Agile practices in a pragmatic way that fits the team’s delivery model.
  • Support the transition of new services and technology improvements into business-as-usual operations. Ensure adoption is embedded and value is realised.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership for the team, including EUD, Networks, and Infrastructure. Ensure the team is delivering value and is supported in their development and wellbeing.
  • Work closely with the Head of Infrastructure and Networks to drive better ways of working. Collaborate with Scrum Masters, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment and delivery.

To do this role well you will:

  • Strong understanding of enterprise IT environments, including infrastructure, networking, and end-user services
  • Experience supporting IT services across on-premises and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, M365)
  • Knowledge of IT service delivery, monitoring, performance metrics, and capacity planning
  • Familiar with device management and end-user computing technologies
  • Proven ability to lead and collaborate with technical teams across multiple service areas
  • Experience transitioning new technologies into operational support
  • Comfortable engaging stakeholders to identify risks, issues, and improvement opportunities
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft technologies, ITSM tools (ServiceNow), and Atlassian (Jira, Confluence)
  • Understanding of IT security and compliance standards (ISO27001, Cyber Essentials, CIS)
  • Ability to contribute to technical documentation and operational processes
