On behalf of UKRI, we are looking for an Interim Deputy Head of Governance  Inside IR35 for a 6 months contract based Hybrid with 2 days a week in Swindon and other occasional travel to London

Job Purpose:

To support the Deputy Director Governance and Head of Governance in developing and embedding effective governance, risk management and assurance arrangements including designing and advising on the implementation of new controls where appropriate.

As a Interim Deputy Head of Governance , your main responsibilities will be to:

• Lead the Governance team and working with work with key stakeholders throughout Innovate UK to develop and embed risk management, including development of a risk-based culture, working effectively with the central UKRI risk team
• Review existing governance and assurance arrangements and identify/advise on the implementation of new controls and delivering change on continuous improvement to those controls.
• Understand the key legal, policy and good practice frameworks within which Innovate UK works and to identify associated risk
• Work with the Deputy Director Governance and Assurance on establishing and maintaining an appropriate policy environment, implementing UKRI and IUK policies / local guidance to support IUK delivery within agreed policy and legislative requirements
• Carry out investigations to identify Innovate UK’s level of compliance with legal, policy and good practice frameworks and to make recommendations for better compliance
• Work with Head of Governance and Deputy Director Governance and Assurance in identifying and implementing new legislative and other good practice guidance in the governance, risk and assurance areas. To ensure that the organisation is well informed through appropriate briefings

Essential:

• Experience of working within Governance, Risk and Assurance within business as usual teams or within a programme setting in public sector
• Hands on experience of working within a fast-paced environment and meeting the needs of multiple stakeholders
• Supporting/delivering work for senior stakeholders including Senior Managers, Directors or Board members
• Identifying and advising on implementation of improvements in control and assurance frameworks
• Experience in grants management
