Description & Requirements

On behalf of UKRI, we are looking for an ER Advisor - (Inside IR35) for a 6-months contract working on a remote basis


UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) is the national funding agency investing in science and research in the UK.

The purpose of the role is to provide a comprehensive operational and advisory service to support organisational changes across UKRI, focusing on redeployment and restructuring activity. This includes ensuring compliance with legal and organisational requirements, managing approvals processes, and maintaining accurate governance and reporting.

This role will also involve supporting the Redeployment Manager and ER Lead in providing advice to managers and HR colleagues in administering restructuring processes, coordinating redeployment activities, and liaising with internal and external stakeholders, as needed.

The ER Advisor will promote HR policies, practices, and processes and actively build effective working relationships.

You will also support other ER or HR related projects as appropriate.


As an ER Advisor - (Inside IR35), your main responsibilities will be:

  • Support the ER and HR teams in developing and implementing end-to-end operational processes to facilitate restructuring across UKRI.
  • Maintain central trackers of all restructuring activity across UKRI (including genuine redundancy cases relating to fixed term contracts).
  • Manage approvals processes for employee exits (internal and external, including DSIT and Cabinet Office).
  • Submit, update and monitor exit scheme quotes and pension options via the Capita portal
  • Provide operational support to the Redeployment Manager and monitor the redeployment mailbox.
  • Support logistical arrangements for union consultation forums (once agreed) and provide data to ensure compliance with consultation thresholds.
  • Track compliance with collective consultation obligations (e.g., HR1 and S188 notifications).
  • Request and track formal compensation quotes and circulate to stakeholders.
  • Coordinate pension-related requests with relevant providers.
  • Track individual employee status throughout the process (e.g., at risk, redeployment, trial period, under notice, exit date).
  • Maintain accurate records for internal governance and external reporting, including timely updates to Cabinet Office.
  • Liaise with HR, local business areas, and external bodies to ensure accurate tracking and compliance.
  • Support ER-related activities, projects and continuous improvement initiatives.


Contacts and Communication

  • Provide advice and guidance to senior managers, line managers, and staff on redeployment and restructuring processes.
  • Build positive relationships with colleagues across HR, particularly Strategic HR Business Partners.
  • Liaise with DSIT, Cabinet Office, UK SBS, Capita, and other external organisations as required.


Essential 

  • HR Expertise: Proven experience in operational HR within complex environments; solid understanding of UK employment law and HR best practices.
  • Qualifications & Skills: CIPD Level 3 or equivalent; strong IT proficiency, including Microsoft 365.
  • Communication & Influence: Excellent written and verbal skills; ability to influence, challenge, and support stakeholders at all levels.
  • Personal Attributes: Highly organized, proactive, adaptable to ambiguity, and skilled in innovative problem-solving within policy frameworks.


Desirable

  • Experience of Fusion / Oracle / SharePoint
