Description & Requirements

On behalf of the MOD, we are looking for a Mechanical Engineer (Inside IR35) for a 6 month contract. This is a full time onsite role five days per week -Stafford.

Job Purpose:

You will join our team that specialises in providing comprehensive support to our armed forces, offering Subject Matter Expertise (SME) across all aspects of Ground Support Equipment (GSE). You will excel in developing solutions, to ensure the GSE is surveyed, refurbished and maintained in accordance with MOD standards.


You will be part of a team that will handle a wide range of equipment within the GSE. You will assist in a variety of roles including planned/Ad-Hoc advanced repairs, using various sources such as Approved Source Information (ASI) or Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) data.


As a Mechanical Engineer, your main responsibilities will be:


  • Perform self-directed Test; Diagnostics; Repair; Maintenance; Modification; Calibration and Manufacture of Equipment down to module / individual Component level using approved Engineering Documentation and techniques.
  • Hold Self-Certification; Over-Signing; Certifying & Conditioning of Equipment Responsibilities ( for example: Serviceable / Unserviceable / Scrap).
  • Supervision; Training and Over-Signing of Junior / Equivalent grade Staff & Apprentices.
  • Carry out Feasibility and Development activity, including the Reverse Engineering and Creation of supporting engineering documentation / Test Procedures.
  • Use a combination of different MOD IT software.
  • Provide Specialist Advice as required.
  • Work within a scheme of Engineering Governance and comply with all policy and legislation.


Essential:


  • Previous experience in schedule maintenance and repair.
  • Holds eligibility to meet the criteria of professional Registration of EngTech, in accordance with the UK-SPEC.
  • Level 4 qualification and advanced/higher apprenticeship; or Level 3 qualification, a nationally recognised engineering apprenticeship and some engineering experience within their discipline or specialism area.
