Description & Requirements


On behalf of Department of Education, we are looking for a Data Engineer (Inside IR35) for a 6 Month contract based Hybrid / in Sheffield.


As a Data Engineer, your main responsibilities will be:

  • The Analytics Engineer will support, manage and maintain data-driven operational services and applications, ensuring the secure, reliable and efficient delivery of business-critical data loads. The role will combine operational support responsibilities with hands-on ETL and data analytics engineering activities.
  • This is a role which is critical for the Business as usual day to day running of a data operations platform as the key responsibilities are around data loading from source to Lakehouse.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team in a large and complex data environment to develop and deliver end-to-end DataOps engineering solutions in line with analytical project goals and delivery cycles
  • Monitor and load data into the Department’s analytical platforms, including trouble shooting issues and fielding user queries. Intervene quickly to resolve problems, minimising potential interruptions to data flows. Escalate as needed.
  • Support business-as-usual activities of onboarding data, projects and users to analytical services. Incorporate new data flows into new and existing systems.


Essential:

  • Strong ETL experience is essential, including optimising automated extraction, transformation and loading processes using tools such as SQL, Python, Azure Data Factory, Databricks or equivalent technologies.
  • Experience of end-to-end development and maintenance / implementation of automated ETL solutions from development to production
  • Working with common data types and industry standard architectural patterns such as data warehouses/lake houses etc. to service operational and/or analytical business needs
