Description & Requirements
On behalf of the DSTL, we are looking for a Enterprise Architect Inside IR35 for a 12 month contract based Remotely with occasional to Salisbury.
SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active SC clearance.
DSTL is the Ministry of Defence (MOD)’s science and technology organisation, providing unique expertise, crucial insights and delivering battle-winning solutions for the benefit of the nation and allies. DSTL is one of the principal government organisations dedicated to science and technology in the defence and security field. DSTL supplies specialist and sensitive services to MOD and wider government, working collaboratively with external partners in industry and academia and worldwide, providing expert research, specialist advice and invaluable operational support.
Background
Enterprise Architects lead strategic change by translating business strategy into actionable technical delivery. In this role, you will:
1. Define and own the enterprise architecture vision, strategy, and roadmaps across business, technology, and data.
2. Lead cross-cutting capabilities that enable transformation and delivery at pace.
3. Guide strategic decisions to ensure reuse, scalability, and value for money.
4. Collaborate across the organisation to align architecture with business needs.
5. Understand and manage the organisation’s ecosystem and reference architectures.
6. Scan the horizon for emerging trends and assess their impact on the organisation.
Duties and Responsibilities
As Lead Enterprise Architect, you will:
1. Engage senior stakeholders to shape and drive architectural strategy.
2. Inspire and mentor architects across teams and communities.
3. Lead architectural governance and assurance across programmes.
4. Identify and apply best practices and emerging technologies.
5. Oversee the creation and use of a Digital Twin to support strategic planning.
6. Ensure alignment of digital and business capabilities with long-term strategy.
Skills and Experience
You will bring expertise in:
1. Communicating architecture effectively across technical and non-technical audiences.
2. Making high-impact architectural decisions and managing associated risks.
3. Leading enterprise-wide architecture across people, processes, and technology.
4. Collaborating across communities to resolve issues and build capability.
5. Shaping complex problems and identifying strategic solution options.
6. Designing and connecting strategies across the organisation and wider government.
Qualifications
Essential:
1. TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework)
2. ISEB (Information Systems Examination Board)
Desirable (any of the following):
3. ITIL Certification
4. IT4IT Certification
5. COBIT Certification
6. Other relevant architecture or governance frameworks
