Description & Requirements


On behalf of the MOD, we are looking for a Communications Officer (Inside IR35) for a 6 month, part time hybrid contract based in Upavon.


The successful candidate will be working a 3 day week with 1 day in the office (ideally a Wednesday) and the remaining 2 days working from home.

To do this the MOD has an annual budget of almost £53 billion and a workforce comprising 197,000 people. of which 54,000 are civilians working for the UK MOD.


The work really matters; the MOD offers a range of engaging roles which have a direct impact on the quality of services they provide, in many locations across the UK. We support teams working in HR, Primary Health Care, Corporate Services, and many others.


As a Communications Officer , your main responsibilities will be:


  • Lead the Plan: You’ll own and implement the Directive and Plan—this is your project to drive forward
  • Build Strong Links: Develop relationships across Defence and create media plans for AT Expeditions that showcase what we do.
  • Manage Our Platforms: Take charge of our internal and external channels—Defence Connect—and make the most of every media opportunity for the Group, the Army, and Defence.
  • Keep Our Brand Consistent: Ensure everything we produce—whether printed materials, digital content, signage, or branded clothing—meets brand standards.
  • Manage Our Image Library: Oversee the Group’s imagery, making sure everything is GDPR compliant and ready to use.
  • Support Army Comms: Help deliver engaging AT communications products that support Army recruitment and retention.
  • Run Events: Organize and deliver seminars or study days within the Group.



Essential:


  • Communications Expertise: Strong background in media engagement and communications, with the ability to craft clear, impactful messages.
  • Social Media Savvy: Confident in managing and creating content for Social media platforms 
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Skilled at building relationships and working effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Army Media & Comms Collaboration: Comfortable linking in with Army media and communications teams to ensure alignment.
  • Plan-Driven Approach: Able to read and interpret a well-defined plan and operate effectively within its framework


Desirable:


  • Military Experience (Highly Desirable): Ideally, you’ve worked in a military environment and bring an open-minded approach to collaboration.
