On behalf of the DSTL, we are looking for an Alarms System Implementation Specialist (Inside IR35) for a 20 month contract based in Salisbury.
DSTL is the Ministry of Defence (MOD)’s science and technology organisation, providing unique expertise, crucial insights and delivering battle-winning solutions for the benefit of the nation and allies. DSTL is one of the principal government organisations dedicated to science and technology in the defence and security field. DSTL supplies specialist and sensitive services to MOD and wider government, working collaboratively with external partners in industry and academia and worldwide, providing expert research, specialist advice and invaluable operational support.
As an Alarms System Implementation Specialist, your main responsibilities will be:
- Collaborate closely with subject matter experts across Dstl Operations to understand, refine, and implement alarm policies and procedures in alignment with Relevant Good Practice (RGP). To ensure these frameworks effectively support alarm system design, management strategies, and the control of Major Accident Hazard (MAH) risks.
- Lead the development of robust alarm systems that enable efficient fault detection and drive appropriate operational responses.
- Act as a key technical authority, contributing to the analysis, assessment, and validation of Dstl’s alarm system designs, while ensuring ongoing monitoring, measurement, and reporting of system performance.
- Create and embed processes that support continuous improvement, and to develop, produce, and deliver new alarm-system training materials and courses to enhance organisational capability.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to trainee safety and engineering specialists, helping build future technical expertise within the business.
- Be responsible for developing alarm-related policies, procedures, and guidance documents that will be adopted and implemented across Dstl.
Essential:
- Experience/skills in the implementation and operation of alarm systems such as: Trend, Vista, Schneider Systems (EcoStruxure) and Sauter Systems.
- Previous experience working on alarm systems in a large organisation.
- Excellent understanding of recognised alarm management standards and frameworks (e.g., EEMUA 191, ISA 18.2, IEC 62682).
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with engineering teams, SMEs, and operational staff.
- SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.
