On behalf of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), we are looking for an Employee Relations (ER) Casework Adviser for a 6 months contract on a remote basis.

The role:

Due to the need to implement various projects in a short period across UKRI, an opportunity has arisen to join the ER Casework Team for a temporary period.

Working closely with the ER Lead, ER Casework Senior Advisers, ER Assistant and with interaction from the Centres of Expertise and UK SBS, you will be the first point of contact for many employees and managers. The role is busy and varied with key activities required so organisational skills are essential.


As an Employee Relations (ER) Adviser your main responsibilities will be: 

  • Manage or provide support as appropriate on a range of formal casework including sickness absence, performance management, disciplinary and grievance cases etc.
  • Ensure that the casework tracker is completed and maintained accurately, whilst managing day-to-day queries, providing professional, timely, accurate and robust advice and guidance to managers and staff in line with the HR delegation framework on a wide range of ER queries providing advice on associated policies.
  • Work closely with colleagues in the HR Operations Team, Strategic HR Business Partners and the HR Centres of Expertise in helping to deliver a consistent and joined-up HR service across the organisation, and lead on HR Projects, developing tools, managing high volumes of traffic to good outcomes.
  • Provide project updates to the ER Lead and manage processes to completion.
  • Adopt a continuous improvement approach to work, to ensure that records are kept up to date and letters, guidance and templates etc are accurate and appropriate.
  • Provide HR advice and guidance to senior managers, line managers and staff whilst building positive relationships with colleagues across the HR function, in particular maintaining close and regular contact with the Strategic HR Business Partners
  • Provide HR support to Formal Meeting and Panels and design HR tools that are legally compliant and fit for purpose.


Essential: 

  • A track record of effectively managing a range of casework with current, relevant experience working in an operational HR role, ideally in a diverse and demanding environment.
  • Appropriate CIPD Qualification or equivalent skills and knowledge gained from working in an HR role
  • Ability to work on own initiative and to manage own time effectively and ability to apply judgement and decision-making to find innovative solutions which meet customer needs, within policy or procedural requirements
  • Ability to work with ambiguity and conflicting priorities as a self-motivated, results-focused and proactive, approach to work, with a strong record of delivery
  • Sound IT skills and proficiency in the use of spreadsheets and data manipulation, specifically, analytical skills and the ability to identify, analyse and make appropriate recommendations.
