Description & Requirements

On behalf of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), we are looking for a Digital Communications Content Creator (Inside IR35) for a 3 month contract (possible extension) on a remote basis (occasional travel to Swindon)

UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) is the national funding agency investing in science and research in the UK.

Smart Data Research UK is a UKRI Infrastructure Fund investment with a mission to unlock the potential of smart data for research that improves lives. We work with partners across academia, industry and government to enable safe, responsible access to smart data from a variety of sources – from satellites and social media, to banking and bus usage - supporting research tackling some of the UK’s most pressing social and economic challenges.

The role:

The Smart Data Research UK Hub team is looking for an experienced Digital Communications Content Creator to join the team.

This is a delivery-focused role, well suited to someone who can quickly get up to speed on a complex programme, respond to briefs, and produce high-quality content across a range of channels. You will support the delivery of digital-first campaigns and content, helping to position SDR UK as a leading voice in the use of smart data for impactful research that benefits the public.

The successful candidate will work within a small, collaborative team and should be comfortable working independently on content tasks, engaging with internal colleagues and external partners, and creating clear, engaging outputs from complex subject matter.

As a Digital Communications Content Creator your main responsibilities will be:

  • Working with internal teams, delivery partners and external stakeholders to support communications activity and messaging
  • Helping to coordinate communications across SDR UK’s network of Data Service delivery partners
  • Supporting the promotion and amplification of outputs (e.g. announcements, news stories, use cases)
  • Assisting in the delivery of activity for the Community Network
  • Supporting the delivery of integrated communications campaigns aligned to SDR UK priorities
  • Creating high-quality content across formats (web, social media, newsletters, case studies, vox pops)
  • Translating complex topics into clear, engaging content for non-specialist audiences
  • Contributing ideas for content and storytelling opportunities
  • Managing and updating website and social media channels, including preparing and scheduling content
  • Supporting the maintenance of content pipelines and publishing schedules
  • Using analytics and insights to help improve content performance and engagement

Essential:

  • Proven experience delivering digital communications and content in a fast-paced environment
  • The ability to respond to briefs and produce high-quality outputs with a good degree of independence
  • Experience supporting campaigns across multiple channels (web, social, email)
  • Excellent written communication and copy-editing skills, with the ability to simplify complex ideas for non-specialist audiences
  • Experience managing or updating digital channels and content
  • Familiarity with using analytics to understand and improve content performance
  • Good stakeholder communication and collaboration skills

Desirable:

  • Experience working in research, data, policy, or other public sector environments
  • Experience working with academics and/or technical specialists
  • Awareness of the UK research and innovation landscape

Please be aware that this role can only be worked within the UK and not Overseas.
