On behalf of UKRI, we are looking for a Development Manager (Inside IR35) for a 8 month (Until end of March 2027) contract based REMOTELY (occasional travel to Swindon).

Job Purpose:
As the Development Manager for IFS-PA, you’ll be the driving force behind our development team. You’ll lead with empathy, inspire with vision, and deliver with precision, working in-house overseeing the full development lifecycle on a number of different systems for IUK. On a typical day you could be discussing upcoming product requirements with Business Analysts or Product Owners, or joining a session with the Architecture team providing input into standards or processes. You’ll certainly take on a leading role throughout the Scrum process, championing best practices and removing impediments to the team when required. You’ll also get involved in the management and resolution of live production issues, servicing the requirements of our wide range of internal and external customers.
The role will also involve ongoing pastoral management of your team members, focusing on their wellbeing, as well as training and development needs. You will hold regular 1-to-1 sessions and will act as first point of contact for the team as required.
As a Development Manager, your main responsibilities will be:
- Lead & Inspire: Manage, mentor, and motivate a team of talented developers
- Deliver Excellence: Oversee the design, development, and deployment of high-quality software solutions
- Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with other teams to bring ideas to life
- Drive Continuous Improvement: Champion agile practices, code quality, and performance optimisation
- Engage with Stakeholders: Collaborate with product owners, delivery managers and other teams to align technical delivery with user needs and business priorities
- Security & Compliance: Ensure solutions meet government security standards and accessibility requirements
- Think Strategically: Contribute to technical strategy and roadmap planning
Essential:
- Proven experience managing software development teams in complex agile environments
- A strong background in software engineering experience with modern tech stacks is a plus
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- A passion for agile methodologies and continuous delivery
- A growth mindset and a knack for problem-solving
