Description & Requirements

On behalf of Fair Work Agency (FWA part of DBT), we are looking for a Finance Manager (Inside IR35) for a 3 month (possible extension) contract based REMOTELY with ad hoc office attendance.


The Fair Work Agency (FWA) is seeking an experienced Grade 7-level finance professional to provide temporary support across Corporate Services during a significant audit period. This is a high-profile opportunity to play a key role in maintaining effective business-as-usual finance operations while supporting the organisation through the National Audit Office (NAO) audit of the 2025/26 GLAA accounts.

Working closely with the Head of Finance, finance colleagues, DBT finance contacts and senior stakeholders, you will ensure financial processes remain robust, timely and compliant, providing essential support across forecasting, reporting, controls and budget management activities


As a Finance Manager, your main responsibilities will be:


  • Provide Senior level finance support during the GLAA 2025/26 accounts audit period.
  • Lead and support month-end activities, including journals, accruals, prepayments, reconciliations and financial reviews.
  • Support budget monitoring, forecasting and management reporting across Corporate Services and wider business areas.
  • Provide high-quality financial advice and guidance to budget holders and internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain effective financial controls, ensuring clear audit trails and robust supporting evidence.
  • Support the Head of Finance and wider finance team by managing essential BAU activity during periods of increased audit demand.
  • Prepare financial analysis, working papers and supporting documentation to facilitate decision-making and assurance requirements.
  • Promote and uphold principles of regularity, propriety, value for money and good financial management.
  • Liaise with DBT finance colleagues and internal stakeholders to resolve operational finance issues and ensure continuity of service.
  • Identify financial risks, control weaknesses and delivery challenges, escalating issues appropriately.
  • Support knowledge transfer and handover activities at the conclusion of the assignment.


Essential:


  • A recognised professional accounting qualification (CCAB/CIMA) or equivalent experience operating at a Senior level.
  • Significant experience in financial management, budgeting, forecasting and management reporting.
  • Strong technical finance expertise, including month-end processes, journals, accruals, prepayments and reconciliations.
  • Sound understanding of financial controls, governance, assurance requirements and Managing Public Money principles.
  • Experience working within the public sector or another highly regulated environment.
  • Excellent analytical, stakeholder management and organisational skills, with the ability to provide clear financial advice, manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes to tight deadlines.


Desirable:


  • Experience working within a government department, Arm's Length Body or wider public sector finance environment, with knowledge of central government finance and reporting requirements.
  • Experience providing financial business partnering support to senior stakeholders, budget holders and Corporate Services functions.
  • Experience improving finance processes, strengthening controls and supporting governance, assurance or Accounting Officer requirements.
