On behalf of the Fair Work Agency (FWA Part of DBT), we are looking for a Commercial Lead (Inside IR35) for a 3 Month (possible extension) contract based REMOTELY 


The Fair Work Agency (FWA) is seeking an experienced, proactive and strategic Commercial Lead to provide commercial leadership across the organisation.

This is a high-profile opportunity at the heart of a new and growing agency. The successful candidate will play a key role in translating FWA's strategic priorities into effective commercial plans, ensuring the Agency has access to the goods, services, suppliers and contracts needed to deliver for workers, businesses and the wider public.

Working closely with senior leaders and colleagues across policy, operations, digital, corporate services and the Department for Business and Trade (DBT), you will provide expert commercial and procurement advice, shape business requirements, develop sourcing strategies, lead procurement activity, manage commercial risk, and support effective contract and supplier management.

You will bring commercial expertise, pace, structure and sound professional judgement to a diverse portfolio of activity, ensuring compliance, value for money, propriety and strong delivery outcomes


As a Commercial Lead, your main responsibilities will be:


  • Lead commercial activity across FWA, ensuring procurement, contract and supplier arrangements support the Agency's strategic objectives.
  • Work with senior stakeholders to translate business needs into clear commercial strategies, sourcing plans and effective routes to market.
  • Lead compliant, value-for-money procurement exercises across a broad range of goods and services, including complex and high-profile requirements.
  • Provide expert advice on market engagement, supplier negotiations, contract terms, commercial risk management and governance.
  • Maintain oversight of the FWA commercial pipeline, key contracts, supplier performance issues and commercial risks, escalating matters where appropriate.
  • Support robust contract and supplier management, including performance monitoring, financial oversight, change control, contract renewals and exit planning.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships across FWA, DBT, Crown Commercial Service (CCS) and wider government commercial networks to secure effective outcomes.
  • Lead and develop an SEO Commercial Manager, while strengthening commercial capability, improving processes and embedding best practice across the Agency.


Essential:


  • Active SC clearance
  • Commercial and procurement experience: Experience of leading procurement and commercial activity across the commercial lifecycle, including developing requirements, routes to market, sourcing strategies, evaluation, award and contract mobilisation.
  • Public sector commercial knowledge: Strong understanding of public sector procurement, value for money, propriety, commercial governance and the controls needed to manage public money effectively.
  • Strategic commercial judgement: Ability to translate organisational priorities and business needs into practical commercial plans, supplier requirements and procurement approaches that support delivery.
  • Stakeholder and supplier management: Ability to build effective relationships with senior stakeholders, suppliers and delivery partners, providing credible advice, constructive challenge and clear recommendations.
  • Leadership and commercial oversight: Experience of managing a varied commercial portfolio, maintaining oversight of pipelines, contracts and commercial risks, and leading or developing others through line management, coaching or professional support.



Desirable:


  • Experience delivering commercial and procurement activity within government or wider public sector organisations, with a strong understanding of public sector governance and routes to market.
  • Proven ability to establish, improve and embed effective commercial processes, controls and ways of working to support organisational objectives.
  • Broad commercial experience across multiple categories (including digital, technology, professional and corporate services), supported by knowledge of Crown Commercial Service frameworks and relevant commercial/procurement professional development (e.g. CIPS or Government Commercial Function experience).
