On behalf of Defra, we are looking for a Job Analysis Officer - (Inside IR35) for a 5-month contract working on a remote basis

You’ll work across the Defra group, supporting managers and HR colleagues to make informed decisions that deliver value for money, reduce organisational risk, and strengthen workforce planning. This is a customer-facing role where you’ll combine analysis, judgement and effective communication skills to deliver high-quality outcomes and influence better practice.


You’ll deliver a professional job analysis service. In practice, that means you will:

  • Be the first point of contact for queries, providing clear and practical advice relating to using and applying job evaluation frameworks
  • Review and quality assure grading submissions, ensuring consistency and fairness
  • Support and run grading panels, helping to reach robust, evidence-based outcomes
  • Explain complex job evaluation decisions in a way that is clear and easy to understand
  • Build strong relationships with line managers and HR colleagues, providing constructive challenge where needed
  • Manage a pipeline of work, balancing competing priorities and meeting service levels
  • Use data and insight to identify trends and implement improvements to how we work
  • Contribute to guidance, tools and resources that help others better understand job evaluation


As a Job Analysis Officer - (Inside IR35), we’re looking for someone who is:

To be considered for this role, please ensure your CV evidences the following essential criteria.


Essential 

  • Ideally you will have experience in grading roles within Civil Services, local government or equivalent
  • Experience of advising or supporting decision-making, for example reviewing role requirements, policies or submissions and providing clear recommendations or feedback
  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills, including working with managers or senior colleagues to improve the quality of information, challenge assumptions, or agree outcomes
  • Experience of working independently and managing competing priorities, such as handling a busy workload, meeting deadlines, and balancing multiple requests or queries
  • The ability to analyse information and produce clear, evidence-based outcomes, for example reviewing documentation or data, identifying gaps or risks, and explaining your conclusions in a clear and structured way
