By giving them the confidence to manage risks sensibly, we boost productivity, support the economy, and contribute to a fairer society. We work hard to help maintain an effective regulatory framework, playing our part in providing proportionate and accountable legal requirements.

As a 3H Building Inspector, your main responsibilities will be to:

  • Shape Policy & Standards: Contribute to the development and review of building control policies, technical standards, and guidance under the new regulatory regime.
  • Provide Expert Advice: Offer specialist input on regulatory frameworks, Gateway decisions, golden thread information, and occupation stage duties.
  • Support Regulatory Operations: Participate in multi-disciplinary teams (MDTs) for Gateway 2, Safety Case Reports, and enforcement cases, offering expert building control insights.
  • Interpret Complex Submissions: Assist in reviewing and interpreting technical submissions for compliance with building regulations and statutory processes.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement: Identify procedural or technical gaps, support tool/resource development, and contribute to training and guidance materials.
  • Engage with Stakeholders: Maintain strong relationships with industry partners and contribute to internal and external technical policy discussions.

You'll have:

  • Registration as a Class 3 Category H Registered Building Inspector.
  • Full membership of RICS, CABE, CIOB or equivalent.
  • Substantial experience in building control regulation, including assessing compliance with building regulations and overseeing complex or higher risk building projects.
  • Ability to interpret technical and regulatory information and apply it pragmatically in support of proportionate enforcement or regulatory decision making.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to produce clear, concise and accessible technical advice and guidance.
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary environments and contributing technical assurance in decision making contexts whilst maintaining positive working relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders.
