On behalf of The Department for Transport VCA, we are looking for a Vehicle System Safety Lead Auditor (Inside IR35) for a 24 month contract which is a hybrid role so requires up to 3 days a week in the Nuneaton location

The Vehicle Certification Agency is the designated UK Vehicle Type Approval Authority and is an Executive agency of the Department for Transport, supporting industry by providing internationally recognised testing and certification for vehicles, their systems, and components. The Agency headquarters are in Bristol with further UK offices on the HORIBA MIRA proving ground in the Midlands, and on the UTAC-Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire.
This role is within the Operations function, the Technical Service side of the Agency. Operations carry out or witness tests and process the documentation for a range of systems and component approvals that can then be used to create Whole Vehicle Type Approvals. They work with all areas of transport including, car, truck, bus, motorcycle and agricultural manufacturers, witnessing and performing tests to a range of internationally recognised standards. The work entails testing to national and international standards, ensuring that vehicles and components meet the safety and environmental standards that the United Kingdom and wider international markets expect. The work is both demanding and exciting and engineers will work with some of the most advanced manufacturers in the automotive sector worldwide.
As a Vehicle System Safety Lead Auditor, your main responsibilities will be:
- Lead on the assessment of vehicle manufacturers safety management systems as part of the Type Approval process to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Audit management systems to evaluate manufacturer claims of effective processes.
- Attend and observe vehicle testing, documenting the results through detailed records that support the evaluation process.
- Determine compliance from the outcome of management system audits and vehicle assessments.
- Collaborate with technical lead in the Type Approval Authority by using experience and knowledge to support development of technical interpretations and broader policy developments.
- Actively participate in professional development activities to enhance and update technical knowledge, staying at the forefront of developments in vehicle safety, including emerging technologies, regulatory changes, and best practices.
Essential Skills
- Experience of audit activities against the requirements of automotive safety standards and management systems, such as ISO 26262 or ISO 21448.
- Experience of product development activities for safety critical systems, such as braking, steering, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems or Automated Driving Systems.
- Stakeholder engagement at all levels across the business
- Strong self starter with a proactive approach to all duties
