On behalf of ONS, we are looking for a Senior Planner INSIDE IR35 for a 6 months contract based REMOTELY with occasional travel in Newport
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is the UK’s largest producer of official statistics, covering a range of key economic, social and demographic topics. These include measuring changes in the value of the UK economy, estimating the size, geographic distribution and characteristics of the population, and providing indicators of price inflation, employment, earnings, crime and migration.
As a Senior Planner , your main responsibilities will be to:
- Provide visible leadership and specialist expertise to mature planning capability, delivery discipline, and predictability across a complex, multi-partner programme environment.
- Lead the development and embedding of a single, integrated planning approach across delivery partners, ensuring consistency of standards, assumptions, and controls.
- Establish and maintain a clear, outcome-focused view of delivery, aligning scope, milestones, dependencies, and benefits to enable confident decision-making and transparent reporting.
- Set and enforce best practice planning standards, tools and governance, driving a step-change in planning maturity and ensuring these are consistently applied across all contributing teams and suppliers.
- Act as the authority on planning quality, challenging assumptions, strengthening estimation practices, and improving the robustness of forecasting and delivery confidence.
- Provide leadership to identify, manage and resolve cross-cutting risks, issues, and dependencies, ensuring that interdependencies between partners are actively managed and do not undermine delivery outcomes
Essential:
- Well-rounded planner with experience developing and managing programme plans across multiple delivery partners, including technology workstreams.
- Ability to work across a range of stakeholders and delivery partners, ensuring alignment and integration of plans across the programme.
- Comfortable working in evolving environments, helping to shape structure and direction while bringing clarity within digital programme settings.
- Public sector experience
Please be aware that this role can only be worked within the UK and not Overseas.
