Description & Requirements

On behalf of ONS, we are looking for x2 Portfolio Analysts (Inside IR35) until 31 March 2026. This is a remote working contract (travel required to Newport/Titchfield on an ad-hoc basis for business needs).


The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is the UK’s largest producer of official statistics, covering a range of key economic, social and demographic topics. These include measuring changes in the value of the UK economy, estimating the size, geographic distribution and characteristics of the population, and providing indicators of price inflation, employment, earnings, crime and migration.


As a Portfolio Analyst, your main responsibilities will be to:


  • Conduct research on the performance of projects across the portfolio and analyse trends, producing integrated insights and providing strategic recommendations to optimise portfolio performance
  • Assess capability and capacity, closely monitoring resource and dependency allocation and ensuring that the portfolio is well-diversified to mitigate risks
  • Assess the performance of various investment options, regularly reviewing and adjusting investment strategies based on performance metrics
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations that communicate the portfolio's performance and strategic insights to stakeholders; this includes maintaining clear and transparent communication with stakeholders addressing their concerns and keeping them informed about any significant changes or developments
  • Build early versions of the enterprise plan


Essential:


  • High-calibre analytical practitioner with the ability to analyse trends and generate integrated insights that inform strategic decision-making
  • Ability to assess capability and capacity across the portfolio, informing resourcing requirements to deliver portfolio objectives
  • Ability to identify constraints across the portfolio
  • Effective communicator with the ability to prepare appropriate reports and presentations to communicate strategic insights to key stakeholders
  • Ability to communicate and present evidence and insights clearly to non-project/programme specialists that enables engagement and informed decision-making
