On behalf of DWP, we are looking for a Data Engineer for a 4 month (Inside IR35) contract based Hybrid in Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle or Sheffield.
The Service Modernisation North Star team require key digital roles to support the Future Design Operating Model work. The team are bringing how we deliver SMP benefits into a single business delivery model - align roles and processes across all benefits, make the process easier for users and improve digital channels. We require key digital roles to build and prove the data model concept.
A Data engineer is required that can recognise the opportunities to re-use existing data flows and lead the build of data streaming systems whilst ensuring optimisation of the code to ensure the processes perform. They will lead the work on database management whilst undertake data profiling and source system analysis and have an ability to present these insights back to colleagues to support the end use of data.
As a Data Engineer your main responsibilities will include:
- Designing, building, and testing complex, large-scale data products, with experience in selecting the most appropriate technologies to deliver resilient, future-proof data services.
- Understanding the impact of emerging trends in data tools, analysis techniques and data usage on the organisation.
- Producing data models which may cut across multiple areas but are confident on the models to use and purpose.
- Applying industry standards: You will be well-versed in data industry patterns, models, and standards, capable of comparing, contrasting, and aligning them as needed.
- Designing and managing metadata repositories: Produce and manage metadata repositories, challenge changes when necessary, and respond to data-related problems by identifying trends and implementing preventive measures.
- Reviewing requirements and defining test conditions: Analyse and report on test activities and results, ensuring that data requirements are met through rigorous testing.
Essential:
- Proven Data Engineering Experience: Strong background in data engineering, with a focus on building and optimizing large-scale, complex data products and systems.
- Technology Selection Expertise: Strong ability to select and implement the most appropriate technologies for resilient, scalable, and future-proofed data services.
- Advanced Data Modeling Skills: Experience in selecting and applying different types of data models to meet specific business needs, with the ability to evaluate and adapt models as required by the project scope.
- A solid understanding of data industry standards, models and patterns, with the ability to apply, compare, and align them to different use cases.
- Metadata Repository Management - Proven ability to design, produce, and manage metadata repositories to ensure data integrity and alignment with organisational goals.
- Experience in identifying and challenging changes to metadata repositories, responding to data issues, and initiating corrective actions.
- Skilled in defining test conditions, analysing test activities, and reporting on test results to ensure data requirements are met.
- Ability to work effectively with Architects, Engineering teams, Data Analysts, and Business Analysts to deliver data solutions.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to engage with technical and non-technical stakeholders and convey complex data concepts effectively.
