Description & Requirements

On behalf of DWP, we are looking for an Associate Portfolio Manager  for a 3 Month (until 28th March 2025) (Inside IR35) contract based in Newcastle or Blackpool 2 days per week.


The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is responsible for welfare, pensions, and child maintenance policy. As the UK’s biggest public service department, it administers the State Pension and a range of working age, disability and ill health benefits to around 20 million claimants and customers.   • Provide effective, efficient, and innovative services to the millions of claimants who rely on us every day, including the most vulnerable in society
  • Improve experience of our services while maximising value for money for the taxpayer.


Core Purpose: 

Support the Digital gateway, External Engagement and Spend Assurance Team to deliver the Co-ordination of the DWP Annual Audit by the NAO and enable and support the wider team in delivering the key objectives of the team across organisational change, management of demand and engagement with areas of government such as the Cabinet office, Dept for Science Industry and technology and Treasury.


Summary of the Role and key responsibilities:

  • As an Associate Digital Portfolio Manager you will focus on supporting the team in ensuring that the portfolio of digital projects or delivery activities within Service or across DWP Digital, delivers optimal outcomes in contributing to the department's aims and delivers on its digital strategy.
  • Within this role you will support tracking, analysis and delivery of outcomes within your portfolio, supporting delivery teams in accelerating delivery, assisting in unblocking issues whilst helping to ensure that proper controls and risk mitigation procedures are in place.
  • You will support in ensuring compliance with standards and supporting adherence to all governance and assurance activity for the Service Teams or DWP Digital, ensuring all service standards are being met.
  • You will support teams in identifying and managing inter-project dependencies, ensuring where delivery is at risk, actions are in place to mitigate.
  • You will advise and support the project setup process.


Skills/ Experience Required:

  • Experience of working in a Government Department, dealing with Stakeholders, exposure or experience of audits.
  • Secretariat, planning, tracking of activities – project delivery experience
