Description & Requirements

On behalf of DWP, we are looking for a Test Engineer for a 12 Month (Inside IR35) contract based Hybrid in Newcastle.

Join the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) as a Test Engineer supporting the Later Life Calc and Pay team, part of a major transformation programme across State Pension and Pension Credit services. This role contributes to the development of a new digital portal, enabling citizens to claim Pension Credit online with ease and accuracy.

As a Test Engineer your main responsibilities will be to:

  • Design and execute manual and automated tests to ensure high-quality software delivery.
  • Collaborate within agile, multi-disciplinary teams to support iterative development.
  • Engage with stakeholders to understand requirements, clarify test scenarios, and ensure alignment across delivery teams.
  • Integrate performance testing into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Contribute to the migration of legacy systems to modern infrastructure.


Essential:

  • Strong background in software testing, including manual and automation.
  • Hands-on experience with the following tools and technologies:
  • Languages & Frameworks: Java, Node.js, Cucumber, Selenium
  • CI/CD: Jenkins, GitLab
  • Performance & API Testing: JMeter, K6, REST Assured, Postman
  • Cloud skills: AWS
  • Proven experience working in agile, cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.


Desirable:

  • Experience in public sector environments.
  • Familiarity with legacy-to-modern system migrations.
