Description & Requirements

On behalf of Defra, we are looking for a HR Policy Content Designer (Inside IR35) until end of March 2026 contract based REMOTELY.

As a HR Policy Content Designer, your main responsibilities will be:


  • Lead the redesign and rewriting of recruitment policies and guidance at pace. Ensure policies and guidance are clear, user-focused, accessible and aligned with organisational priorities and compliance requirements. 
  • Work closely with HR senior leaders, recruitment teams, HR policy teams and technical experts (ie, those in our Data, Digital and Technology directorate) to interpret customer feedback and translate it into practical, accessible policies and guidance. 
  • Design and deliver content that meets user needs, applying content design principles and plain language standards to improve clarity and usability. 
  • Develop and maintain a clear plan for policy and guidance redesign work, including interim deliverables to demonstrate progress within agreed timelines. 
  • Capture and document decisions, feedback, and actions to support governance and programme delivery. 
  • Act as an advocate for user-centred policy design, supporting communication and engagement across HR and with wider stakeholders. 


Essential:


  • Proven experience in content design, policy writing, or service design within HR or similar functions. 
  • Strong understanding of recruitment processes, compliance requirements, and best practice. 
  • Ability to interpret and apply user research and feedback to shape policy and guidance. 
  • Skilled in translating complex policy requirements into clear, accessible content. 
  • Comfortable working in ambiguity and delivering at pace within a structured programme environment. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on clarity and usability. 
  • Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work across teams and functions. 
  • Familiarity with programme and project delivery environments, including governance and milestone tracking.
