Description & Requirements

On behalf of The Department for Transport - Vehicle Certification Agency, we are looking for a Specialist Engineer – Modelling & Simulation (Inside IR35) for a 24-month contract. This is a hybrid working role (three days per week onsite - Bristol or Nuneaton).

Job Purpose:


The Lead Simulation Engineer is pivotal in establishing and leading a new team dedicated to advancing the Vehicle Certification Agency’s capabilities in the approval of ADAS and ADS. As these technologies become increasingly integral to modern vehicles, the need for robust type approvals that rely on simulated evidence has never been greater.


This new team will be focused on supporting the use of modelling and simulation to ensure compliance with UNECE regulation.


Although this team will be primarily focused on dynamic behaviour it will represent an opportunity to further the capabilities for other forms of simulated evidence for type approval.



As a Specialist Engineer – Modelling & Simulation , your main responsibilities will be to:


  • Lead on the assessment simulated evidence use for the type approval of ADAS / ADS to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Perform credibility assessments to ensure manufacturer claims of effective processes and that models are robust.
  • Determine compliance from the outcome of credibility and vehicle assessments.
  • Support the wider Agency in the assessment of simulated evidence for other type approval subjects.
  • Collaborate with the client managers to ensure effective delivery of type approvals.
  • Oversee the work of engineers involved in type approval activities to ensure the highest standards are maintained through the type approval process.
  • Ensure consistency in the Type Approval process by following, establishing and maintain internal guidelines and procedures, while adhering to Agency held accreditations.
  • Collaborate with technical lead in the Type Approval Authority by using experience and knowledge to support development of technical interpretations and broader policy developments.
  • Actively participate in professional development activities to enhance and update technical and legislation knowledge, staying at the forefront of toolchains and technologies.
  • Create and conduct training on modelling and simulation procedures, use of analysis tools, and data validation techniques.
  • Act as a mentor and guide colleagues in the realm of modelling & simulation, sharing your practical insights and knowledge to foster skill development and growth in the team.
  • Line manage engineers within the Modelling and Simulation team.



Essential:


  • Using industry recognised software to evaluate vehicle dynamic performance.
  • Validating simulation models against experimental data.
  • Level 6, or higher, qualification in Computer Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering or other related fields.
  • Full UK Category B Driving Licence



Desirable:


  • Experience in Homologation and Type Approval
