Description & Requirements
On behalf of DWP, we are looking for a Senior Azure Data Engineer for a 12 month (Inside IR35) contract based Hybrid in Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle or Sheffield.
As a Senior Azure Data Engineer, you will join a team delivering innovative and insight-driven data products using modern cloud technologies. Working on DWP's Health Transformation Programme, you will help build and maintain robust, scalable data solutions that support services used by millions of citizens across the UK.
You will work closely with stakeholders, analysts and engineering teams to develop high-quality data products and services, while contributing to the wider DWP data community through knowledge sharing, mentoring and continuous improvement.
As a Senior Azure Data Engineer, your main responsibilities will be to:
- Translate business requirements into robust, reusable production ready data solutions.
- Design, develop and maintain complex data pipelines and ETL processes.
- Build scalable and resilient data products using modern Azure technologies.
- Define and implement version control strategies and engineering best practices.
- Shape fit-for-purpose solutions in line with agreed engineering principles and standards.
- Perform data profiling, data quality assessments and issue resolution activities.
- Develop reusable code, frameworks and metadata libraries.
- Ensure the stability, resilience and ongoing supportability of data products.
- Collaborate with Quality Assurance teams and Data Managers to support testing and release activities.
- Work closely with stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams to deliver business outcomes.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring and knowledge sharing across the wider team.
Essential:
- Strong experience designing and developing end-to-end data solutions using Microsoft Azure.
- Expertise in building complex data pipelines and ETL solutions.
- Experience developing automated data ingestion routines, workflows and data mappings for structured and unstructured data.
- Strong hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse Analytics, Python and SQL.
- Experience designing, building and supporting complex ETL and data pipeline solutions within Azure environments.
- Ability to translate business requirements and data models into robust, production-ready solutions.
- Experience implementing testing, version control and code quality practices.
- Strong understanding of data quality, performance optimisation and supportable engineering solutions.
- Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
- SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.
Desirable:
- Experience working within large Government departments or the wider public sector.
- Experience supporting health, benefits or large-scale transformation programmes.
- Experience mentoring or coaching other Data Engineers.
