On behalf of The Insolvency Service, we are looking for a Business Support Officer (Inside IR35) for a 6 month contract based remotely but does require 3 days a week in either the Manchester, Birmingham or London offices.


The Insolvency Service is a leading Government agency which plays a crucial role in providing essential services to the public and to business. The work we do is important to the proper functioning of markets, the economy in general and support for thousands of people each year who are in financial difficulty.

Legal Services Directorate (LSD) undertakes both criminal enforcement work on a range of offences that underpin the insolvency regime and civil litigation work arising from director misconduct.


Our directorate consists of approximately 82 staff who make up our Criminal and Civil enforcement teams, and a Paralegal team.


The purpose of this post is to provide line management to two Paralegal Assistant Managers, and act as reporting manager for their small team of Paralegal Assistants, who are responsible for providing administrative support and assistance to the in-house legal team. The post-holder will also work closely with other Business Support staff to facilitate our recruitment campaigns and other non-casework tasks.


As a Business Support Officer, your main responsibilities will be:


  • Line manage a small team of administrators and drive perfomance to ensure that KeyPerformance Indicators (KPIs) are achieved through the regular review of management information
  • Work closely with another B2 / HEO colleague to share responsibility for a range of Business Support tasks including Intranet editor and regular provision of management reports
  • Provide administrative oversight to specific criminal cases ensuring timely progression through the Court process
  • Act as Capability Champion for LSD supporting colleagues with a self-driven approach to learning
  • Act as Local Records Officer to ensure retention processes are in place and adhered to within the directorate on all case management and storage systems
  • Support the Head of Business Support with wider LSD and Agency initiatives
  • Work with colleagues across LSD and the Agency to develop and share best practice and policy
