On behalf of Network Rail, we are looking for an Assistant Project Manager for a 6 month contract which is a hybrid role that required 4 days a week in the Manchester Square One office

New project which is supporting the training team within Network Rail, helpdesk and planning for the national training programme


As a Assistant Project Manager, your main responsibilities will be:


  • Experience supporting project delivery or working within a structured project environment (e.g. PRINCE2, Agile, or similar).
  • Familiarity with maintaining project documentation, action logs, risk and issue trackers, and project plans to the highest of standards
  • Engaging confidently with stakeholders at all levels across the business
  • Assist Project Managers and Change Leads in coordinating change initiatives that impact Shared Services operations (e.g. HR, Finance, Payroll, Procurement).
  • Maintain accurate records of change activities, stakeholder engagement, feedback, and actions, ensuring updates are captured in change logs or trackers.
  • Organise logistics for training sessions or briefings to support adoption of new systems, processes, or tools, ensuring attendance is tracked and materials are distributed.
  • Gather data (e.g. from surveys, feedback forms, or system reports) to support root cause analysis and help assess service performance or user impact.
  • Contribute to small process mapping exercises or workshops, helping document current-state processes and capture suggested improvements.


Essential Skills


  • Experience in a similar role which can Include Project Administrator, Project Support Officer, or Business Support Officer.
  • Experience supporting project delivery or working within a structured project environment (e.g. PRINCE2, Agile, or similar).
  • Familiarity with maintaining project documentation, action logs, risk and issue trackers, and project plans to the highest of standards
  • Excellent communication skills– able to engage confidently with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage time effectively and prioritise a large workload.
  • Strong self starter with a proactive approach across all duties


Desirable Skills


  • Experience within large public sector, rail, infrastructure, or shared service operation is beneficial
