On behalf of DWP, we are looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Java/AWS) for a 12 month (Inside IR35) contract based Hybrid in Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle, Blackpool, or Sheffield.
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to support the modernisation of a critical legacy platform within the Attendance Allowance service.
Working as part of a collaborative Agile team, you'll help shape the design and delivery of a modern AWS cloud based solution, replacing a legacy platform with scalable, secure and maintainable services. This role combines technical leadership, solution design and hands on software engineering using Java, microservices and modern cloud technologies.
You'll work closely with Solution Architects, Product Owners, Test Engineers and DevOps specialists to deliver high quality software while helping to drive engineering best practices across the team.
As a Senior Software Engineer, your main responsibilities will be to:
- Lead the design and development of a modern cloud based solution (AWS) to replace a legacy system.
- Build and deliver scalable microservices using Java (essential), alongside Node.js / Python / JavaScript.
- Implement CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices to enable continuous delivery.
- Work with containerisation technologies such as Docker/Kubernetes in a modern engineering environment.
- Collaborate with Solution Architects to define and shape technical designs and approaches.
- Coach and mentor engineers while promoting engineering best practices.
- Contribute to low-level design, technical planning and story decomposition.
- Work closely with Product Owners, Test Engineers, DevOps Engineers and Designers throughout delivery.
- Support continuous improvement and Agile delivery across the team.
Essential:
- Strong experience developing software with Java.
- Experience developing applications using technologies such as JavaScript, Node.js and Python.
- Experience working with AWS or similar cloud platforms.
- Experience working with CI/CD pipelines in modern delivery environments.
- Experience with containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience working with microservice and message based architectures.
Desirable:
- Previous experience within Central Government or wider Public Sector organisations.
- Experience working on large scale system modernisation or legacy replacement programmes.
