On behalf of The Ministry of Justice, we are looking for a Lead Quality Engineer (Inside IR35) for a 6 month contract based hybrid 2-3 days per week in any MOJ office.

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) priorities include improving public safety and reducing reoffending by reforming prisons, probation and youth justice, and building a justice system which makes access to justice swifter and more certain for all citizens whatever their background. Project professionals in the MoJ help to improve the government’s ability to protect the public and reduce reoffending, and to provide a more effective, transparent and responsive criminal justice system for victims and the public.

SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.

We have 3 Data Stewardship teams at LAA Digital; Access Data Stewardship, Payments Data Stewardship and Common Services & Enterprise Data Stewardship. They operate as product teams but with a focus on data products and services for LAA Digital and MoJ Data rather than directly serving LAA staff, providers or clients.

The Access Data Stewardship team are responsible for establishing standards, control, and consistency over all access-related data via data stores and APIs. They will form the backbone of the new data estate and transformation journey. All new services involved in the end-to-end transformation journey need to submit data to and pull data from the Data Stewardship teams, and our new analytical infrastructure will pull data from Data Stewardship products into the analytical platform to be used by analysts.

Skills & experience required bullet points:

• Coordinating, leading and collaborating with Engineers across multiple teams, to create and implement sustainable integration test strategies, aligned to best practices and consistent standards, to support all dependent services.
• Review suitability of existing test automation frameworks and work with teams to adopt/transition to alternative frameworks where required.
• Design, build, and maintain automated test frameworks for UI and API testing using Pact, Postman or Playwright.
• Create automated regression suites, this includes automating regression test scenarios and acceptance tests where required.
• Utilise web UI testing tools and develop frameworks such as Playwright, enabling efficient testing of web applications across different browsers and platforms, where applicable.
• Knowledge of Oracle Enterprise Applications, for example, E-Business Suite.
• Apply database testing techniques and utilise tools like SQL queries and database validation tools for comprehensive testing of data integrity and consistency, where required.
• Conduct performance testing using JMeter or K6, to simulate real world user loads and analyse performance under various conditions.
• Collaborate with others to integrate automated tests into continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines using GitHub Actions, ensuring timely and reliable validation of code changes.
• Utilise version control systems like Git for managing test scripts and collaborating with cross-functional teams effectively.
• Apply a continuous learning mindset, staying updated with emerging technologies, tools, and best practices in software testing to enhance effectiveness and efficiency and knowledge share/mentor other team members.
• Play an active role in the engineering community and culture, getting involved in various community meetups and informal support networks.
